Shelter Roofing Systems installed 3000m² of Esha’s environmentally friendly single ply membrane roofing system at Charing Cross hospital.

Shelter Roofing Systems was selected to install the new roof at Charing Cross Hospital after successfully completing the tender process, by specifying a high value but cost effective solution. The old roof was stripped away to the concrete substrate and using a combination of Esha Universal, Eshatherm insulation and a vapor barrier, Shelter Roofing Systems directed and completed the installation process to an extremely high standard.

Why Esha Universal?

Esha Universal is a POCB (polyolefin Copolymer Bitumen Binder), which is a form of modified bitumen membrane that has the low temperature performance of SBS membranes and the high-end performance of APP membranes, (both of which we also produce). The method of manufacture is patented so that the material can be produced without stretching the carrier/reinforcement which otherwise usually leads to shrinkage on the roof, an important factor when considering a single layer product with the lap being the last line of defence.

Esha Universal can be mechanically fixed, ballasted or set in cold adhesive. The laps are heat welded with the Esha Heat welder, safer than electric hot air and more environmentally friendly.

Finally, Esha Universal is 100% recyclable and is manufactured using unique processes. This ensures that Esha performs to the highest degrees of sustainable building practices, which has been recognised by the European Commission Life Programme, resulting in a grant of 11.5 million euros towards the 15 million euros Esha are investing in trebling the capacity of its recycling facilities.
